Saturday was a beautiful day, too beautiful to spend indoors….so we headed out. It was just me, my hubs, and my daughter. I would say little girl…but she is 21. Oh who am I kidding, she’ll always be my little girl. The boys had their own things going on, so we were off on our own adventure.
We decided to go to the lake and go fishing. As I sat and watched my husband and daughter fishing, I was reminded of how important it is to just get back to the basics. The conversation between a daddy and daughter seemed like the most comfortable place to be, the easy banter and heartfelt inquiry of every day happenings. The gentle breeze and the warm sunshine, the sweet looks passed between the two….my heart melted watching this genuine exchange. It’s times like these that I am extremely grateful….grateful for the life mate that I have. He is a wonderful man and husband, but I’m even more grateful for the father he is to our children. He’s stern, but loving….structured, yet compassionate…he gives them a great example of what a family foundation should be…an example of what to be and what to expect.
And she thinks they’re just fishin’……
