Today was a great day. Sunday is my favorite day because I get to worship with my church family. And today was even better, because we attended a second service to witness the confirmation of a family member. This service took place in the church where we took our vows, baptized our babies, and grew in our faith. So many memories…it looks the same, with just a few minor changes. Many of the faces were the same, the smell was the same, and the organ was magnificent, as always. This little trip down memory lane made my day so sweet. I can remember walking down that aisle, knocking over a candlestick that my friend’s husband caught so my dress wouldn’t catch fire. I can remember being pelted with birdseed as we rant to our car after our wedding reception. I can remember every baptism of my babies. I can remember sitting toward the back of the church when the kiddos were small, in case they got too loud and needed to be taken out. I remember picking up cheerios after the service was over, so the custodian didn’t have to. I remember the one time that one of the kids was getting a little sassy and I pinched their little leg to get their attention and in a loud little voice, they said, “Ouch mommy! You pinched me!” I was so embarrassed, and didn’t dare ever do that again….we just made a trip outside to get the matter straight from then on. Truth be told, I rarely had to do this…our kids have always loved going to church. I remember many Vacation Bible School days and playing hand bells with the choir. So many great memories….
